IPS Prashant Kumar, a highly regarded officer in the UP government, has been appointed as the acting Director General of Police (DGP) for Uttar Pradesh, succeeding IPS Vijay Kumar, who recently retired. Currently holding the position of DGP Law and Order, Prashant Kumar, a 1990 batch IPS officer from Bihar, met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his residence, expressing gratitude for the appointment.
Known as 'Singham' in UP Police, Prashant Kumar has earned a reputation for eliminating notorious criminals and mafias through around 300 encounters during his tenure. A recipient of the President's Police Medal for Gallantry four times, Prashant Kumar has been recognized for his courageous leadership, including a daring rescue operation during the Kanwar Mela in Meerut in 2017.
